Doctors have warned of a rise in a new but extreme party trend, ‘sex roulette’ where people enjoy unprotected group sex knowing that one participant is secretly HIV positive and nobody is allowed to wear a condom.
The parties are usually attended by gay men, who are entertained by the ‘thrill’ of not knowing whether they will be infected or not. Experts claim that it is the ‘thrill’ of the unknown that drives people to take part in the risky orgies.
These racy meetups are said to be commonplace in wealthy circles in Serbia, and may soon become a global trend among teenagers, another disturbing reason why parents should always monitor their teenage kids’ activities.
Doctors in Spain have seen a rise in the number of such parties, which they claim is a sign that people have “lost respect” for HIV. Dr Josep Mallolas of Hospital Clinic Barcelona said; “There is everything: ‘sex roulette’ parties, or sex parties you can only attend if you already have HIV.”
He added that some of the events are known as ‘blue’ parties because attendees take anti-viral drugs to reduce the risk of transmitting the virus.
Psychosexual therapist, Kate Morley says going to ‘sex roulette’ parties is about the risk, party goers think the higher the risk, the stronger the thrill.
She advised, though, that the long term consequences are dangerous. ‘In the case of sex parties, the intense high is as you combine orgasm with high adrenaline.’
Barcelona’s Hospital Clinic has released a statement saying that the present rise of patients with HIV and sexually-transmitted diseases in the region could be blamed to the popularity of teen sex roulette parties.
The clinic is presently treating almost 4,500 HIV-positive patients. An estimated of 100 people are also consulting about HIV every day.
A Serbian stripper, last year claimed the ‘sex roulette’ parties originated in Serbia – and were named Serbian sex roulette, after Russian roulette.
Last year, she mentioned that everyone was talking about sex parties then, but in fact they have been common for a long time in Serbia, where the wealthy organize these sex parties for other rich people.
