Why Was De General Arrested?

De General was arrested on allegations of drug trafficking in January 2022 by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA). The arrest followed a raid of a notorious drug joint in Lekki, Lagos. De General was nabbed after some illicit drugs were reportedly found in his house. The case which was deliberated upon at the federal high court saw the comedian spend almost a week in NDLEA custody.

It was reported that during the raid, some suspects ran into the house of the comedian who alongside others tried to defend them. This led to a search of his residence after which exhibits of Cannabis Sativa, and Tramadol 225mg were recovered; thus leading to his arrest.

Following a short trial, the court let De General go after the Judge admitted that only little amount of the said drugs were found in his residence. The influencer was then cautioned by the court. His arrest was met with mixed reactions across the internet, many of which consisted of people frowning at the agency’s magnification of a small case. Comedian Basketmouth particularly called the entire exercise a waste of taxpayers money.

The Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria (HURIWA) also frowned at the disparaging manner with which De General was paraded bearing in mind that high government officials who are also suspects in similar cases get treated differently. The comedian after his release confessed that he was not into drugs even though some amounts were found in his residence. He also maintained that comedy was his only source of income.
