Taraba State Government Calls For Deployment of Special Forces

Taraba State Governor, Darius Ishaku, has on Thursday called for the deployment of special security forces in Taraba state, to usurp the Boko Haram insurgents, who he claims are regrouping in Taraba.

The Governor made this call while hosting Major Gen. Adamu Abubakar, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the 82 Army Division Headquarters, Enugu, on a courtesy visit.

He said he had proof that the terrorists, having been chased away from the Sambisa forest, are now regrouping in the Suntai Daaji forests of Taraba State.

This forest cuts across the Bali and Donga local government areas.

Hear him:

“The massive influx of people into Taraba for some time now has been the major cause of insecurity.

“But when I was warning of the repercussions, I was accused of being against visitors, but today all of us are victims of their criminal activities.

“The terrorists are today committing all sorts of criminal activities, including rape, kidnapping and killings.

“People can’t travel freely on Bali-Suntai-Takum road among several other routes any longer in the state.”

On the issue concerning the blood fights between local farmer and nomadic cattle rearers, the governor called for ranching in different parts of the country.

Hear him:

“The population of Nigeria at independence and now is not the same and we must think and look inward to solve these problems associated with open grazing.”

The GOC, who had visited the state to address the clash between farmers and the cattle rearers, called for a round-table dialogue between the parties and some of the security agencies, so as to bring a halt to the fracas.

Suggesting to the governor to grant amnesty to the criminals, he asked for a timeline for the illegal firearms in the state to be seized from the wrong hands.

He also called on the traditional rulers of the people, putting the responsibility of peace in their hands. According to the GOC, any traditional ruler who was lagging about the peace and security of his people should be removed as a way to strengthen the peace bond.
