Popular artiste, Damini Ogiulu aka Burna Boy, has been declared wanted by the Lagos State Police Command for allegedly masterminding the robbery against a fellow artiste, Abiye David Jumbo aka Mr. 2Kay.
Mr. 2kay was attacked last month at Eko Hotel and Suites after attending a show put together by Buckwyld Media Network Limited, which featured many other artistes.
The victim, Mr. 2kay, had lodged in room 847 on the 8th floor for the Buckwyld show, when he was robbed by four heavily armed men. The robbers were said to have gained entry after claiming they were room service sent up from the hotel reception to clean the room.
Mr. 2Kay had alleged that the robbers stole his Audemais Piquet gold wristwatch valued at N9million, gold jewelries valued at N1.5million, Iphone7 valued at N380,000, Samsung Galaxy S7 and S5 phones valued at N240,000 and N110,000 respectively, Addidas shoe valued at N75,000, three perfumes valued at N180,000 and N45,000 in cash.
Speaking at the state command headquarters in Ikeja, the state acting Commissioner of Police, Edgal Imohimi, said Burna Boy has been evading arrest.
While parading four suspects arrested for the robbery at the command headquarters, on Monday, Nov. 20, Imohimi disclosed that the police tracked down the suspects through footage of Closed Circuit Television cameras installed in the hotel.
According to the acting CP, Burna Boy paid the gang a sum of N100,000 “to teach Mr. 2Kay a lesson.” Giving a detailed account of the attack, Imohimi disclosed that after dispossessing Mr. 2Kay of his valuables, the gang tied him and his girlfriend up before leaving the room. Hear him:
“During investigations, the girlfriend of one of the gang members, Nimota Mutajero, was arrested. Her confession led to the arrest of three suspects. They confessed that one Damini Ogulu aka Burna Boy, an artiste, through his road manager, one Joel Kantiock, contacted and paid them to rob Mr. 2Kay to teach him a lesson.
“Kantiock was subsequently picked up in his hideout at Zaria, Kaduna State. He confessed that his boss, Burna Boy, instructed him to look for armed men that could rob Mr. 2Kay. Burna Boy mobilised the gang with an initial cash sum of N50,000 and a subsequent sum of N50,000 when the job had been completed.
“I advise Ogulu aka Burna Boy, to report himself at the nearest police station since efforts to locate him at his residence at 7 Cheview Estate, Lekki, or any known hangouts, have proved abortive.”
However, the Punch reports that Kantiock denied that Burna Boy directed him to arrange for the gang to attack Mr. 2Kay, adding that he was not aware of any disagreement between the artistes.
But the other suspects have confessed to the crime with the gang leader, a 27-year-old Omotore from Ondo State insisting that it was Kantiock who invited him to deal with Mr. 2Kay on the orders of his boss.
