Peugeot 301, Mercedes Benz S-class, Others Emerge Winners at Auto Awards


Peugeot 301, Toyota Nigeria, Ford, Nissan, Mercedes-Benz, and president of Coscharis Group, have all emerged as top winners in the 2016 Nigeria Auto Journalists Association (NAJA) awards.

The Nigeria Auto Journalists Association crowned Peugeot 301 as the car of the year in Nigeria in 2016, after a close contest with Toyota Corolla and Nissan Almera.

To emerge winner, the Peugeot 301 polled the majority vote in both the on-line contest and the voting by Auto journalists.

The award which took place at Eko Hotel, Victoria Island, Lagos also had different awards for various categories in the automobile industry.

Luxury Car of the Year award went to Mercedes Benz S-class, after beating the BMW7 Series and Jaguar XJ. Toyota Prado won Sports Utility Vehicle of the year while the Pick up of the year was won by Ford Ranger.

Mini Bus of the year award went to Toyota Hiace, while the Heavy Truck of the Year was won by Mercedes Actros.

In the Outstanding new entrant of the year category, Globe Hyundai and Jet Van Mercedes were joint winners while God is Good Motors was crowned the Most Safety Conscious Transport Company of the Year.

Show Room of the Year Prize was won by Nissan show room, Victoria Island, Lagos, while Pirelli was crowned Tyre Brand of the year.

Chisco Transport was recognized as the West Africa Coast Transport Company of the Year, while Yamaha was voted Motorcycle brand of the year.

In the personalities category, the Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) was awarded Road Safety Personality of the Year.

The Auto Personality of the year award, went to the President of Coscharis group, Dr. Cosmas Maduka while the Managing Director of Toyota Nigeria Limited was selected as the CEO of the year.

The late Executive Director of Nigeria Auto Manufacturers Association (NAMA), Mr. Arthur Madueke, was given a post humous award for his contributions to the auto industry.

At the event, Acting Commissioner for Transportation, Lagos State, Prince Anofiu Elegushi commended Nigeria Auto Journalists Association for putting the event together, while auto industry players were tasked to invest in the local industry.
