In Edo State, the Independent National Electoral Commission postponed the gubernatorial elections, which was initially scheduled to hold on September 10, 2016. The new date is now September 28th, 2016. According to the spokesman of the commission, Nick Dazang, the postponement was due to security threats. Read More Here.

Mr. President acknowledged that Nigerians are going through a challenging moment, with unemployment at an alarming scale, however, while he tries to rectify the situation, he urged Nigerians to change their ways as well.
The price of fuel remains tentative to an increase. While Nigerians still complain about the last increase from N85 to N145, the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporate plans to increase it further. However, the National President, IPMAN, Mr. Chinedu Okoronkwo, said if Nigerian refineries are working to a capacity of 70 percent, the product will not be more than N130 per litre.

On the sports scene, an 11-Year-old Nigerian girl, Marylove Edwards made the country proud when she emerged 3rd best Tennis Player in Africa. Marylove beat her Kenyan opponent 6-1, 6-1 in the third-place match after losing 7-5, 6-7, 4-6 to her Moroccan opponent in the semi-final.
Over the past few weeks, the latest buzz in Nigeria and the world at large on sports has been on the just concluded Olympic Games in Rio. However, there has been some major transfer of some Nigerian footballers from one team to another. Here’s a quick run through some of our players that were transferred to the European Window.
The biggest transfer after Mikel Obi’s move from Manchester United to Chelsea is that of Ahmed Musa from CSKA to League Champions Leicester City on a four-year contract for club-record fee of around £18m.
Isaac Success also made a move from La Liga club Granada to Premier League side Watford, joining the likes of Odion and attracting the tag of the second Nigerian to command a huge fee during the 2016/17 transfer window after Musa.
28th-year old Super Eagles’ defender, Elderson Echiejile completed a season-long loan switch to Standard Liege from French side Monaco after he lost his place to Djibril Sidibe. Others who made a transfer include, Kingsley Madu (Trencin to Zulte-Waregem), Umar Sadiq (Roma to Bologna), Fred Friday (Lillestrom to Alkmaar), Kenneth Omeruo (Chelsea to Alanyaspor), Ogenyi Onazi (Lazio to Trabzonspor), Rabiu Ibrahim (Trencin to Gent), and Anderson Esiti (Estoril to Gent).

Now to the latest buzz on Nigerian currency and how it’s competing with other currencies. The week opened with an exchange rate of N425 per dollar, N537 per British Pound and N465 per Euro. As at 8th September, Thursday (evening), a dollar sold for N423, British Pound for N550 and N467 per Euro.

On the entertainment scene, Nigerian legendary singer, King Sunny Ade celebrates his 70th birthday in grand style. The singer, guitarist and energetic performer, who was born on September 22, 2016, started marking his birthday from September 1 and plans to spread the celebration till December, making it the longest birthday celebration in Nigeria.
He was first hosted in Houston by his friends and family to a glamorous birthday party which came with a huge guitar cake. Having contributed so much to African music, it is only honorary for the king of juju music to be celebrated in style.
Also, Port-Harcourt first son, Duncan Mighty is ready and certified to release his fifth studio album titled Certificate. According to a press release by him on his social handle page, the album will drop worldwide on September 16, 2016. Anticipate!
A few days ago, Nigerian comedian, Basket Mouth was robbed at gunpoint in his home in Lekki. His colleague and friend Bovi shared the news on Instagram, revealing that it happened between 2 am and 4.am and that the robbers went away with loads of valuables including the CCTV device. Fortunately, Basket mouth and his family was left unhurt.
Meanwhile, the Federal Government has declared Monday 12th and Tuesday 13th August, public holiday in celebration of the Muslim’s Id el Kabir.
