Faridah Demola Seriki also known as Kah-Lo, daughter of former Minister of Defence and chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos State, Chief Demola Seriki, has been nominated for the 2017 Grammy Awards.
Kah-Lo, a fast rising Nigerian-born international artiste, and an alumna of Hofstra Journalism in the United States of America, was nominated for Best Dance Recording “Rinse n Repeat” – Riton featuring Kah-Lo.
The song ‘Rinse & Repeat’ was released in 2016. It has been streamed 5 million times on Spotify and played 1.5 million times on YouTube less than a month after its release.
The excited singer took to her Instagram official account to share a photo of the nomination with the caption: “Oluwa did it! Riton has all the swag sauce.”
She is the second Nigerian nominated for the award following that of Wizkid in the Rap album of the year for his contribution in Drake’s ‘Views’ album. Wizkid was a prominent contributor on the lead single, which was released in April 2016.
The song falls into the Grammy eligibility period – October 1, 2015 to September 30, 2016 and racked up 4.67 million streams in one week and pulled about 3,000 combined chart sales. The song set a new record, becoming the longest-running No. 1 single in U.K.’s digital era.
As of June 16, 2016, ‘One Dance’ has sold 1,280,141 copies in the United States. The song has spent 11 straight weeks on the top of the Billboard chart
‘One Dance’ has also won several awards in 2016, one of which was the Teen Choice Award for Choice R&B/Hip-Hop Song.
Billboard.com had on Tuesday released the 2017 Grammy nominations for the Awards Ceremony which would hold on February 12, 2017 and would be aired live on CBS.
Beyonce has a total of nine nominations, followed by Drake with eight nominations and Rihanna who also bagged eight nominations.
