Reports making the rounds have it that suspected Fulani herdsmen are planning an attack on another community in Enugu State. The said community in Nze, Udi Local Government Area of Enugu State, has been said to be thrown into a state of confusion and panic.
Residents of the community have reportedly fled to neighbouring towns and cities including Enugu, Afa, Ngwo, and Egede. The report came in on Thursday night about a plan by Fulani herdsmen to invade the community.
An Abuja-based indigene of the community, who sent in a distress message to one of the dailies was quoted as saying,
“I just received a frightening report that Fulani herdsmen have planned to invade my community, Nze in Udi Local Government Area. I therefore call on the Police in Enugu State to rise up to this grave security challenge to avert a repeat of Ukpabi Nimbo.”
“My community is deserted, as women, children and the elderly have been moved to Enugu and neighboring communities of Aku, Affa and Egede. Am deeply pained by this terrible news and urge all Nigerians to stand with my people in prayers and defence of our land.”
He further added via a phone call placed to him that . . .
“I heard they had some issues with farmers in Udi recently over their cows and based on that, they have vowed to launch similar attack as they did in Nimbo. As I speak to you, every person in my family compound has fled the community; I can’t even reach them.”
Security agencies have been urged to be on the alert and to intervene in the situation to avert any loss of lives and property and a degeneration of the situation as witnessed in the attacks on Nimbo community in the State.
