Ernestine Shepherd, an 80-year-old grandmother, is one of the world’s oldest female bodybuilder and has scooped the title for the most incredible muscles.
Shepherd, who just gained another year in what she’s called her “long happy journey” of life, has no plans on slowing down when it comes to keeping fit.
Now 80, the fitness trainer, model, competitive bodybuilder, and new author celebrated her June 16 birthday with a Facebook post declaring her continued determination, dedication, and discipline.
The octogenarian from Baltimore was born on June 16th, 1936. She didn’t start exercising until she was 56 years old and instantly knew she’d found her new calling in life. Since then she’s gone on to win two bodybuilding titles.
Thereafter, Shepherd began to publicly share the story of how she came to live a life of tenacity and perseverance. She was previously named the world’s oldest bodybuilder by the Guinness World Records in 2010 and 2011.
Ernestine is so committed to her fitness programme that she gets up at 3am every morning. She runs up to 80 miles a week, and spends four days training for marathons.
The super-fit granny follows a strict exercise regime of running, weight-lifting and eating healthy and says she has the full support from husband of 52 years, Collin – who even helps her prepare healthy meals.
But despite her marathon runs, bench-pressing 150lbs and diet of eggs, chicken and vegetables, Ernestine says the true secret to her success is simply never giving up.
And after spending years getting herself in incredible shape, Ernestine now dedicates much of her time to helping others as a personal trainer.
