Sad news for fans of Enyimba FC tonight. Nigerian club side and Championship hopefuls Enyimba FC eliminated from the CAF Champions League.

Nigerian powerhouses Enyimba FC have been sacked from the CAF Champions League.

Enyimba suffered a 1-0 defeat against Egyptian giants Zamalek.

Enyimba played away against Zamalek in Cairo, Egypt in a rescheduled Group B clash at the Petrosport Stadium on Monday night.

With South Africa’s Mamelodi Sundowns having secured top spot in the three-team group with a game to spare, Zamalek and Enyimba met in what was effectively a quarter-final.

The Egyptians came into the game with a notable advantage.

They were playing with a home advantage and also having beaten Enyimba 1-0 away in Port Harcourt in the teams’ first group meeting back in June.

This meant the White Knights only needed to avoid defeat or draw the match to progress to the semi-finals.

At the end of 90 minutes, Zamalek progressed with a lone-goal victory.

The only goal scored by Bassem Morsi – the same scorer in Port Harcourt more than two months ago.

Morsi scored in the 63rd-minute from the penalty spot after being awarded a penalty.

The result sees Zamalek complete their Group B matches and finish with six points from four outings.

Zamalek, shared their victory on their Twitter page (@ZamalekSCStats) with a clip of the penalty kick that gave them the win.

They said:
