Mr. Bulama Modu has been convicted by Justice Alkali Gana Wakkil of the Borno State High Court 11 in Maiduguri for stabbing a farmer to death after he found the victim having carnal knowledge of his wife in the bush, an offence which contravenes Section 224 of the Penal Code.
Following a one-count charge of culpable homicide, not punishable with death, against Bulama Modu, a native of Ngamma village, Maiduguri, the judge declared the punishment decided against him to be a five year imprisonment with an alternative of paying a fine of N250, 000 for stabbing the victim severally to death.
Narrating the incident that led to the death of the unlucky farmer, Modu said that his suspicion was raised when on January 29th, 2015, he noticed that his wife, Falmata Kundura, whom he was observing when she left his house to attend her friend’s wedding ceremony in a nearby village, was being followed closely and suspiciously by the dead man, Bunu Zarami.
True to what he suspected, he found Bunu having sexual intercourse with his wife Falmata in the bush. And when the deceased saw him, he brought out a knife, ready to attack him but instead, he (Bulama Modu) was lucky to have succeeded in stabbing him.
However, contrary to the testimony of Modu, his wife, Falmata, denied having sexual relations with the deceased, saying that when the late Zarami saw her, he ran after her but she escaped into a house.
J. A. Kwatamdiya, the prosecution counsel, presented six witnesses that gave their testimonies and also showed a knife, flashlight, statements of the witnesses as exhibits. The culprit who was represented in the court by his lawyer, S. Kyari, informed the court that the deceased person had been following his wife for a long while.
The convict met his wife making love to the deceased in the bush. Convict did not mince his words. It is heartbreaking to meet your wife making love to another person in the bush but it is not an excuse to stab him to death. No amount of defense ever justifies a killing, except done lawfully.
Poachers of married women are on the prowl and married people should be watchful and learn how to catch a monkey alive. It is regrettable that the convict has for long been keeping vigil on his wife, having been informed that the deceased has been having affair with his wife. It is because of this ordeal that the court decided to be lenient with him.
It’s a pity that some married women have decided to constantly bring shame on the women folk with their promiscuity. But somehow I don’t seem to understand why some men will reduce themselves to being tagged a ‘murderer’ by killing the sin partners of their adulterous, shameless wives. Could it be jealousy? Maybe. Personally though, I don’t think a cheating woman is worth the stress!
Modu is not the only one who believes that a home-breaker deserves death, as according to Pulse, Sohnan Sunday pledged his support by also killing a man whom he said had been having sexual affairs with his wife, adding that his wife had been impregnated on two occasions by the lover boy and aborted both pregnancies.
