Barcelona Crash Out Of UEFA Champions League After Goalless Draw
Title favorites, FC Barcelona have crashed out of the ongoing UEFA Champions League 2017.
Barca had suffered a woeful 3-0 defeat away at Juventus in the first leg of the quarter final encounter.
Hopes of pulling a stunning comeback at the Nou Camp, similar to that with Paris Saint Germaine in the previous round were completely dashed.
Playing an airtight defensive strategy on the night, Juve were able to hold down Barcelona through 90 minutes, to a goalless draw.
Speaking after the match, Juventus defender, Leonardo Bonucci had this to say about the game:
“We knew Barcelona were ready to risk everything tonight, but we closed down all the spaces.
“Scoring three in the first leg and not conceding at the Camp Nou is the evidence that we are a great team, a great group.
“Now we need to make another difficult step to reach the final in Cardiff.
“The draw? I think every team would like to avoid us now.”
Barcelona crash out of the Champions League shamefully without scoring a single goal in two legs.
In the 67th minute, Barca points-man, Lionel Messi missed a good chance, but could only earn one shot on target for Barca.
Ex-Barcelona forward, Higuain came close to scoring for Juventus on two occasions ice who have now qualified for Friday’s semi-final draw.
Barcelona Crash Out of Champions League 2017
Before this season, Juventus had only twice made it to the semi-finals of the UEFA Champions League semi-finals this century.
On both occasions that they made it to the last four, Juventus made it through to the final, but lost them both.
Perhaps this season, Juve would trump history.
This is the 7th time Juventus will be reaching the Champions League semi-finals, more than any other Italian side.
Meanwhile, Monaco have defeated Borussia Dortmund to proceed to the semi-finals.
Monaco are the first Ligue 1 team to reach the last four since Lyon in the 2009/10.
They secured a 3-1 defeat over Dortmund, totalling 6-3 on aggregate.
Monaco’s 3 goals were scored by young sensation, Mbappe, Falcao and Germain.
They successfully outscored Monaco while making up the Champions League semi-final qualifiers just like they did Manchester City.
