Siasia Boasts: Eagles Will Thrash Egypt Come March 25

Super Eagles Interim Coach, Samson Siasia says he is confident that the Super Eagles will beat the Pharaohs of Egypt in the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier match coming up in Kaduna, come March 25.

The Eagles are currently second in their AFCON 2017 qualifying group phase ahead of the crucial two-legged tie against Egypt in March. The first leg will be played in Kaduna on March 25 while the second leg will be played in Egypt, three days later.

Siasia who disclosed this Abuja yesterday said: “We can recreate October 1977!”

Why not? The home-boys have come in and full training has commenced. Everyone is raring to go. By the time the foreign-based players arrive, the competition will be what we want. I insist that we have invited the players who are capable of giving us the three points in Kaduna and another three points in Alexandria.

On October 8, 1977, the Eagles beat the Pharaohs of Egypt 4-0 in a 1978 FIFA World Cup qualifier at the National Stadium, Lagos, with the inimitable Segun Odegbami bagging a brace. Skipper Christian Chukwu and John Nwadioha got the other goals.

Meanwhile the coach has dropped three players initially included in the 43-man list invited for the crunch 2017 Africa Cup of Nations Qualifying matches against the Pharaohs of Egypt. Siasia said they were dropped because they failed to report to the U-23 camp on time as expected.

They should no longer report to the Super Eagles camp, as punishment for reporting late to the Dream Team camp without permission.

The trio dropped from the team are Segun Oduduwa, Usman Mohammed and Stanley Dimgba who are all members of the Nigeria U-23 team, the Dream VI.

With the exclusion of the three, 40 players are left to train, 19 home boys will train for two weeks before the arrival of 21 overseas-based players on the week of the first game in Kaduna.
