Nollywood actor Segun Arinze has appealed to the family of late Dr. Suraj Giwa, to forgive and drop the charges against former President of the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN), Ibinabo Fiberesima.
The actor, who has joined the list of supporters of the embattled actress, prostrated before the camera during an interview with HipTv, with Arinze pleading to the deceased family on her behalf:
“I am making a solemn appeal here and I’m saying please, if I could even go on my knees and they see me go on my knees, to the Giwa family, I beg you in the name of God, forgive Ibinabo. It has past and it has past, nobody prayed that what happened would happen.”
Nollywood actress Gloria Young took to her Facebook page some weeks ago to shared her thoughts on the issue. She wrote:
“I have not slept in days, I’ve been having nightmares about Ibinabo Fiberesima being in prison. I can’t seem to wrap my head around it. I’ve read the way some people have lambasted her for having an accident! I can’t sleep because I see victimization, I see vendetta and I fear.”
The ex-beauty queen was sentenced to five years’ imprisonment by Justice Deborah of the Lagos High Court last month for reckless driving which led to the death of Dr. Suraj Giwa. After appealing the sentence for several years, the Lagos state Court of Appeal last month, upheld the judgment of the Lagos High Court saying she must serve her five year sentence.
Many Nigerians have reacted to her jail terms. Some are of the opinion that she shouldn’t be jailed as that would destabilize her family, while others believe she should serve her jail terms irrespective of who she is. Many actors in the industry have however led a campaign asking for mercy for the actress, through rallies and sometimes social media posts.
