President Buhari Cancels State Visit To Lagos
Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, who also confirmed the development to newsmen, said Osinbajo would only inaugurate a few of the projects earmarked for inauguration by the President.
Shehu informed also that the President Buhari would still embark on the visit after Ramadan to inaugurate the remaining projects.
Reports also suggest that the cancellation has a political undertone, as President Buhari was reportedly unhappy over a meeting National Leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Bola Tinubu had with organized labor last week without clearance from the President’s office.
Commissioner for Information and Strategy Lagos State, Mr. Steve Ayorinde, in a statement on Saturday said President Buhari would inaugurate some landmark projects executed by Governor Akinwunmi Ambode during his visit.
Activities scheduled for the President’s trip to Lagos include inauguration of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency Rescue Unit in Cappa Oshodi built by the state government to ensure prompt and swift response to emergency situations in the state; commissioning of the newly constructed Ago Palace Way in Okota, Isolo; commissioning and handing over of security equipment and vehicles contributed by the Ambode administration to security agencies to beef up security in the state; after which he will pay homage to the Oba of Lagos, Oba Rilwanu Akiolu at the Iga Iduganran, Lagos Island.
