Governor Adams Oshiomhole of Edo state on Wednesday said that God loves Nigeria so much which is evidenced in the emergence of President Buhari at a time like this in Nigeria’s history.
Oshiomhole, while addressing some Muslim faithful as part of events to mark the Eid-el-Fitri celebration at the Government House in Benin, ascribed the leadership crisis rocking the opposition Peoples Democratic Party as one caused by the “hand of God.”
“We have to thank Allah for making it possible for Buhari to emerge. God so loves Nigeria that he brought Buhari at this time. If Buhari had not come, we will not know why the Nigeria government failed to tackle Boko Haram. They are now confessing like witches.
“Today, you can see confusion inside the party that brought Nigeria to its knees. Can you not see the hand of God? They said they would rule for 60 years. Now 16 years later, they are out.”
He said at a time when the whole country was afraid and being attacked, both Muslims and Christians were being attacked by Boko Haram, “…even the money that was voted by the National Assembly to secure Muslims, to secure Christians, to secure our country, against these hooligans (insurgents), this money was stolen and shared…” by the PDP leaders.
The governor criticized the party for allegedly bringing the economy of the country to its knees and commended the efforts of President Muhammadu Buhari to recover looted funds.
He further added that if that situation had continued, by today, there would have been no Nigeria.
“So, if President Buhari had not come now to ask everybody to give account, we would not know why the Nigerian government was not able to tame Boko Haram.”
Oshiomhole, who noted that Nigeria would regain prosperity, urged Nigerians to continue to pray for the peace of the country and to demonstrate patriotism.
The governor believes that over the next two months with the President, squeezing out all the things that were stolen and blocking all the loopholes, things will change. He enjoined all to just pray and encourage every person to play a part, adding that Nigeria will become great again.
