The Nigerian Military have again averted what would have been another suicide attack in Maiduguri on Tuesday, when it intercepted two suicide bombers who attempted to enter the city. According to residents, the bombers made desperate efforts to enter the city through the outskirts but were halted before they blew themselves up.
The Media Coordinator of the counter-insurgency force in the North-East (Operation Lafiya Dole), Col. Mustapha Anka confirmed while addressing a press conference. He said the troops intercepted two suicide bombers trying to infiltrate Maiduguri through Muna Dalti, at about 100 meters ahead of the troops and youth vigilantes’ checkpoint.
“The suicide bombers were halted but refuse to stop, in the process, the bombers blew themselves up. No causality was recorded on our troops and civilian JTF. The area has been cordoned while aggressive search is going on in the general area.”
He added that the troop killed 56 suspected Boko Haram terrorists on Monday, vehicles destroyed and 52 hostages rescued.
“Equally, troops of 112 Battalion and AHQ Special Group conducted fighting patrols along Gardawaji, Adashe, Mijigine, Manawci, Sigafariya Bula Goma, Mafa, Dikwa and Kala Balge. During the operation, the troops had contact with Boko Haram terrorists along Boboshe and Mowa Kasuwa, and in the process, 56 Boko Haram terriorists were killed, items recovered included eight AK-47 rifles, three RPG seven tubes, one GPMG, one MPGP, 1-60mm motar, one grenade and three motor bombs
Eighteen motorcycles and vehicles were destroyed. Also, 520 hostages were rescued and brought to the internally displaced persons (IDP) camp in Dikwa.”
Col. Anka said the troop are determined to wipe out the insurgents from the north-east;
“In its determination to wipe out insurgents in the North-East, troops of Operation Lafiya Dole recorded huge successes. Troops of 25 Task Force and Civilian JTF on routine operation, to clear Ajigin had contact with Boko Haram terrorists, in the process several insurgent were killed, while 50 motorcycle and three vehicle were captured and destroyed
“Similarly, our troops along Damboa – Chibok road arrested some unknown vigilantes, one of whom claimed to be the Village Head of Kopchi in company of 42 others who claimed to be operating around Madagali general area, six among the 42 were apprehended for carrying AK 47 rifles and 15 magazines.”
He also revealed that the troop during a clearance operation in January had encountered the terrorists.
“On the January 24 2016, at Chukun Gudu, troops on a clearance operation had encounter with Boko Haram terrorists. During the encounter, insurgents were dislodged, and in the process, one killed while several others sustained gunshot wound, two double barrel gun, 4 x 9mm rounds, a solar panel, mechanic tools were recovered,” he said.
