Ewedogbon community in Igando area of Lagos State was thrown into a state of confusion on Tuesday morning, July 26, following an invasion of suspected militants in the area.
Although various sources revealed that many people were killed as the militants gained entry into the homes of people to torture them, the actual number of casualties has not been known as at the time of this report.
According to residents of the area, the militants stormed the community in large numbers carrying guns and other dangerous weapons in the wee-hours of the morning.
A resident who did not want his name mentioned said the militants stormed the area and started killing people. He sent a frantic message through the social media platform, WhatsApp saying:
“Please help us call emergency line right now, Ewedogbo area of Igando, LASU Road is on war, Niger Delta militant are killing people right now, no one can call or go out, I am an eye witness, please, help us spread the information”.
He disclosed that nobody could venture out of their houses because the gunmen occupied the streets, breaking into people’s houses as they liked.
Information gathered showed that some policemen who had stormed the area at the time the militants were on rampage, ran back to mobilise.
Police sources also stated that the police had mobilised and taken back the community from the militants, adding that armoured personnel carrier are presently stationed in the area.
The Lagos State spokesperson, Dolapo Badmos, confirmed the invasion and said they had deployed large number of policemen to the area to protect lives and properties.
