Niger Delta Avengers (NDA) have dared the military to come after them in the creeks where they live rather than looking for them in the comfort zone of the cities.
The groups’ invitation to the military was disclosed yesterday, August 14, in a statement by its spokesman, Brig-Gen. Muddoch Agbinibo who accused the security personnel of arresting and killing innocent people in the Niger Delta in the guise of looking for members of the NDA and illegal oil bunkers, noting that military harassment of towns and villages in the region has continued because they have not confronted the Nigerian military in battle.
The statement said:
“We are not scared in confronting you. The creeks of the Niger Delta belong to us, so defeating the Nigeria military is not hard for us. We have made it clear on many occasions that our business is to cripple the Nigeria economy not to kill military. The Nigeria military should not think we (NDA) avoiding them is a sign of weakness.”
Following allegations by the Commander of the Nigerian Navy, NNS Delta, Commodore Joseph Dzunye, that members of the group who allegedly assisted in the bombing of Chevron’s facilities in Delta State have been arrested, the Avengers also denied the claim stating that those arrested – Stanley Tonghan and Felix Miyenminiye -were agents of the military who failed in their assignment to get information about NDA.
Agbinibo added that:
“On failing to deliver, the suspects were arrested and tagged NDA members. What a shame? Tonghan and Miyenminiye are not members of NDA, we don’t know or have any connection with them. The Commander of NNS Delta, Warri, Commodore Joseph Dzunye, is trying to impress his boss in Abuja by arresting sleeper agents recruited by his predecessor. Any criminal arrested is now an NDA member.”

The militant group maintained that the the militant family is intact, saying it was very unfortunate that the military was busy wasting innocent lives in the region all in the name of looking for Avengers and illegal oil bunkers.
“If the Nigeria military is serious about arresting NDA let them come to the creeks of the Niger Delta, that is where we dwell not the city.
“ If I (Brigadier General Moduch Agbinibo) were the Commanding Officer NNS Delta (Commodore Joseph Dzunve) and commander of the so-called Operation Delta Safe (Rear Admiral Joseph Okojie), I would have been in the creeks instead of sitting in the comfort of my air-conditioned office.”
The Avengers accused the Buhari-led government of not being “reliable, reasonable, responsible and ready to dialogue,” urging the elders of the region to stop acting like they were begging the government for dialogue.
