Legendary Nigerian musician, King Sunny Ade has auctioned and sold his guitar for a whopping N52.1 million at his #SunnyOnSunday 70th birthday concert, in Lagos.
KSA’s much loved vintage fender guitar had drawings designed by Nigerian artist, Victor Ehikamenor. The guitar was auctioned by Dr. Jogun Onabanjo, Certified Auctioneer and Chief Executive of Onabanjo and Onabanjo & Co.
At the 70th birthday concert of King Sunny Ade tagged ‘Sunny on Sunday’, which held at the Temple Balmoral Marquee, Federal Palace Hotel, Victoria Island, Lagos, the glittering artistic piece was revealed.
The event had an audience comprising of Nigeria’s richest and top celebrities. The bid had a start of nine million naira, which was followed by a very competitive bid by the well-heeled audience consisting of influential businessmen such as Alhaji Aliko Dangote, Mr. Femi Otedola, Tunde Folawiyo and more closing at N52.1 million.
While the bid was in progress, the asking price for the guitar doubled to N17 million under two minutes before exceeding the N50 million benchmark in 15 minutes, leaving many in the crowd shocked. The winner of the auction is however yet to be revealed.
Sunny on Sunday was the grand concert of the month-long celebration of Juju maestro, King Sunny Ade’s 70th birthday. The hosts for the night were Funke Akindele, Lolo Omotunde and comedian Tee A.
Nigerian government officials were conspicuously represented at the event – Governor of Ogun state, Ibikunle Amosun, Nigeria’s Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, former Governor of Lagos State, Babatunde Raji Fashola, former deputy Governor of Lagos, Princess Sarah Adebisi Sosan and several others were spotted in the VIP section.
His Royal Majesty, Oba Saheed Elegushi was also notably seen at the event, while many KSA fans came in from outside Lagos especially to mark the occasion.
