Ibinabo Fiberesima Reapplies For Bail On Health Grounds


Embattled president of the Actor’s Guild of Nigeria(AGN), Ibinabo Fiberesima has re-applied for bail on grounds that she has breast cancer.

In a six paragraph affidavit of urgency deposed by Victor Eden,suspected to be her lawyer, the deponent claimed  that a cancerous tumour was expelled from Ibinabo’s breast.

The actress who was sentenced to five years in prison by a Lagos High Court, for reckless driving which caused the death of Suraj in an auto accident along the Lekki-Epe Expressway, Lagos in 2005, applied for bail last week which was rejected by  the court of Appeal after the judges ruled that her application was incompetent.

The three man-panel  said that the application was not properly filed as her counsel failed to attach copies of the judgment that was delivered by the court which affirmed the five years jail sentence imposed on her and adjourned the hearing for her bail application to April 7th when copies of the March 11th‎  judgement would have been included.

The court of appeal has however acknowledged Ibinabo’s new bail application and a new hearing has been fixed for April 7, 2016.

Meanwhile, her son Sean Liam Coughlan,who is a professional footballer in England is surprised at the way things have turned out for his mother and took to his Instagram page to express his undying love for his beloved mother.

Sean posted a photo of his mum with the words, “My queen, no matter what, love this woman more than anything.”

There have been so many reactions from different people following the court ruling that she serve a five-year jail sentence.

While some are of the opinion that she shouldn’t be jailed considering she is a career woman, who has a husband and children to take care of and that sending her to jail will destabilize her family. Majority say she should be sent to jailed regardless of who she is in the society,as this will be an example  to others and prove that nobody is above the law.
