Felabration is an annual music festival that is hosted in memory and honour of the great African Afro-beat singer, Fela Anikulapo Kuti.
The idea was conceived in 1998 by the legend’s daughter, Yeni Anikulapo-Kuti and has over the years been one of the most anticipated annual festivals in the Nigerian music industry.
The 2016 edition of Felebration kicked off in Lagos on Monday, 10th October and will run for the next seven days, wrapping up on October 16, 2016.
It began with a symposium tagged ‘Movement Against Second Slavery’ at NECA hall, Hakeem Balogun street, Ikeja and this year’s festival is themed, ‘Everybody Say Yeah Yeah’.
Felabration is always held in October to coincide with the birthday of the late Afrobeat legend, which is 15th October . For the first time, this year, concerts will hold simultaneously at New Africa Shrine, Freedom Park, Kalakuta Museum and a host of other venues.
As always, a long list of Nigerian musicians take turns to entertain fans daily at the festival. So far, the celebration has been filled with amazing performances from the likes of Jaywon, Kcee, Skiibiidelivering, etc. Today’s event [October 12, 2016] is tagged ‘DJ Groove’ and will feature performances from local and international DJs.
