The Chief Executive Officer of Peace Mass Transit (PMT), Dr. Samuel Maduka Onyishi, has given an insight into how he was frustrated by the last administration in Enugu State over his desire to contest the 2015 governorship election under the APC.
News of his defection comes on the heels of a wave of exodus from the Peoples Democratic Party in Enugu State. Former Senate President, Ken Nnamani, former Governor Jim Nwobodo and former Speaker of the Enugu State House of Assembly, Eugene Odo earlier joined the ruling party.
Onyishi, said he was not in the APC for selfish political interests.
He equally revealed that his security was withdrawn and his business license almost seized after he decamped from the People Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressive Congress (APC) in 2015.
He, however, noted that he had finally returned to APC where he rightfully belonged.
“I was forced out of APC by the PDP government in Enugu State who saw me as a threat and withdrew my security and threatened to revoke my business license within 48 hours after I decamped from PDP.”
“But today, I have come to where I rightfully belong. What this means is that I am coming back home to help build the party in the state.”
“I will not make the same mistake I made in 2015 by going back to PDP”.
Onyishi has been registered as APC member at his Ihe ward in Nsukka Local Government Area of Enugu State in the ongoing national registration exercise of the party.
He said that his decision to re-join the All Progressive Congress (APC) was to help build the party and not to contest the forthcoming governorship election.
“My reason of re-joining APC is not to contest the 2019 governorship election but help build a party that respects constitution and regard for internal democracy.”
“Another reason why I am coming back to APC is because the spirit of God told me this is the party that has good plans for the country”
The Enugu PDP 2015 governorship aspirant called on the people of South-East to support President Muhammadu Buhari APC government to enable him fulfill his campaign promises for the region, adding that for the first time Nigerians were witnessing prosecution of corrupt individuals.
“The treasury single account of the present administration is the best thing that has happened to this county.”
“We have also a government that is determined to fight corruption with the recent prosecution and jailing of fuel subsidy fraudsters.”
“This is a government determined to fight corruption unlike the PDP that enthroned mediocre and corrupt individuals.”
The State Chairman of the APC, Barr. Ben Nwoye who received Onyishi back into the party described him as a strong pillar of the party.
According to Nwoye, Dr. Samuel Maduka Onyishi single handedly paid for the rent of our State and Zonal secretariat offices.
“This man is our own state financier and we are happy to have him back as our member. With him, the former Senate President, former Governor and former Enugu State House of Assembly Speaker now in our fold, APC is set to conquer the “Lion Building” come 2019”
Among other dignitaries present at the event included Director General Voice of Nigeria, (VON) Mr. Osita Okechukwu, Former APC governorship candidate, Barr.Okey Ezea, Nollywood Actor, Kenneth Okonkwo.
Over the years Dr. Onyishi has built a successful Mass Transit Company from scratch and by virtue of the his huge economic base has become a force to be reckoned with in the politics of his home state Enugu.
During the 2015 elections, he made no secret of his intentions to run for Enugu’s top job after the governorship slot was zoned to the Nsuka district. His ambitions however hit a brick wall after it became apparent the then governor favoured Hon. Ifeanyi Ugwanyi.
