China To Partner With Nigeria In The Fight Against Boko Haram


The Chinese Ambassador to Nigeria, Gu Xiaojie has given his word to the Nigerian Armed Forces about Chinese Government’s readiness to partner with Nigeria in the ongoing fight against Boko Haram insurgency.

Xiaoije during his courtesy visit to the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Gabriel Olonisakin in his office at the Defence headquarters, Abuja gave them his word. The Chinese Ambassador also revealed that his government is confident in the Nigerian Armed Forces in their fight against the insurgency. Mr. Xiaojie expressed his belief in the capacity of the Nigerian military to bring back peace and security to the areas haunted by Boko Haram. He additionally called for firmer ties between the two countries’ armed forces especially in the areas of intelligence gathering, sharing  and training.

The CDS thanked the Chinese government for extending a hand of help to the Nigerian military particularly now that the fight against the Boko Haram insurgency is at its prime.

In a similar development, the Acting Sierra Leone High Commissioner to Nigeria, Major General Alfred Claude Nelson-Williams (retd) also praised the Nigerian Armed Forces for their capacity in recovering quickly from the insurgency and their unshakable courage at defending the nation specifically for making sure peace and security are being brought to not only Nigeria but to the West African Sub-Region.

According to the High Commissioner, the reason for the visit was to show gratitude for the great role the Nigerian Armed Forces played at bringing peace to Sierra Leone during its civil war and the training of Sierra Leone military officers at the National Defence College and Command and Staff College, Jaji.

He recalled how Nigeria gave up human and materials to make sure that peace is being brought back to Sierra Leone after the country’s civil war.  He  went on to say that Sierra Leone and its citizen would forever remain grateful to Nigeria. He then promised Nigerian Armed Forces of conquering the insurgents and urged for continuous and stronger ties between the two countries.
