Governor Willie Obiano revealed that one of his vision at the time he became the governor of Anambra state was to eliminate crime so as to attract investors and make Anambra State – a first Choice Investment Destination and a hub for industrialization and commercial activities.
Obiano who assumed office on March 17, 2014 explained that it was as clear as daylight that the major obstacle to his dream of a ‘great’ Anambra State was security challenges.
He stated this in a broadcast to the people of the state to mark his two years anniversary in office on Saturday, where he declared that his mission was to make Anambra State a socially stable, business-friendly environment that would attract both indigenes and foreigners to seek wealth-creating opportunities.
“I figured out that there could be no meaningful progress in this state without a successful attack against crime. I knew that no investor would go to a crime-ridden environment.
“So, we launched an all-out war against kidnappers, armed robbers, drug dealers and child-traffickers. We smashed crime syndicates and pulled down the warehouses used for keeping kidnap victims.
“We donated smart cars to the police, a gunboat to the Navy and last Christmas, we inaugurated police helicopters to watch over our skies. And so, for the first time since the creation of this great state, we made sure that Anambra was effectively covered on the land, in the waters and in the sky.”
Governor Obiano also recounted the developmental achievements of the state under his administration; Roads and Infrastructure, Agriculture, Education, Health, Environment, Mass Transit scheme, Public Utility, Workers’ Welfare, Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) Revolution, etc.
The governor, who described the period he came into office as the worst moment in the country’s economic history, said all the newest development in the state is an indication that given time and resources, Anambra State can be turned into Nigeria’s new postcard for excellence.
