18 year-old Nigerian footballer and Arsenal defender, Marc Bola has signed his first professional contract at the club.
The defender has been in impressive form this season and helped the U-18’s side reach the semi-finals of the FA Youth Cup and UEFA Youth League, along with midfielder, Savvas Mourgos earlier this season.
Marc is a graduate of the club’s Hale End Academy, known for his athleticism and aerial prowess. Arsenal youngster, Savvas Mourgos also signed a new contract alongside Marc Bola at the Emirates Stadium.
An excited Marc Bola took to his Twitter handle expressing his delight at signing his first deal with the Gunners, saying that he had found his “dream club” in North London.
Arsenal official website said everyone at Arsenal looks forward to Marc’s continued development at the club.
Meanwhile, Manager Arsene Wenger also confirmed on Thursday that the club have opened negotiations with Alex Iwobi over a fresh deal as the Gunners move to tie up the club’s highest-rated young prospects.
Arsenal recently signed Golden Eaglets’ duo of Kelechi Nwakali and Samuel Chukwueze. Both players were members of the 2013 World Cup winning Nigeria Under-17 team that included Kelechi’s brother Chidiebere and a certain Kelechi Iheanacho. They were well on their way to making the final World Cup squad until late injuries left them with shattered dreams, especially Nwakali.
Already in Arsenal’s main team are Alex Iwobi and Chuba Akpom, who is however on loan. Two other Nigerian youth players are in the Arsenal youth team, including Chiori Johnson and Tolaji Bola, both defenders.
On the female side, Super Falcons’ striker, Asisat Oshoala, recently joined Arsenal Ladies from Liverpool. She is the first African to have appeared and scored in the Women’s Super League.
