APC Supporters Of Faleke And Bello Come To Blows At APC National Secretariat Abuja

The mood at the national secretariat of the All Progressive Congress, APC, Abuja turned tense yesterday after supporters of Yahaya Bello and Hon. James Faleke clashed. The two candidates have firm interests in becoming Governor of Kogi State through the party APC. The battle has been on since Audu’s death, with the two candidates scrabbling to stand in place of the Late Abubakar Audu who died before INEC could announce the result of the November 21 polls.

Because Bello, who came second in the primary election that saw Audu as candidate is speculated to have won the hearts of the party members and was approved to replace the late Audu,  Faleke, Audu’s running mate in the inconclusive election, is requesting that the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC and the APC  should declare him both the standard candidate and Governor-Elect since he was supposed to be the Vice.

However, INEC has scheduled December 5 as the day for the supplementary polls. Tension arose among supporters of both Bello and Faleke caused mostly by “jobless” young men who had a brief clash of strength at the party secretariat. The fighters used life-threatening weapons like stones and sticks freely while they intoned the names of the competitors individually to demonstrate who they are fighting for. The fight continued until policemen through reinforcement chased the agitated youths away, thereby restoring sanity.
