The Lagos State arm of Teachers’ union says that Akinwunmi Ambode is a very friendly governor who listens to, and attends to their needs.
The union thank him for being considerate towards the plight of civil servants in the state, especially in the aspect of paying up salaries in time among other things.
The state deputy chairman of National Union of Jornalist, NUJ, Mr Adeshina Adedoyin, made this known in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria, stating that the governor is workers’ friendly and holds a quarterly meeting with the labour unions in the state. He also said the governor Ambode has also taken the initiative to award all long overdue promotions and they are grateful for all of that.
“The governor of Lagos state has been prompt in the payment of workers’ salaries in the state. He is the only governor that has organized a quarterly meeting with the labour unions in his state to find out about their challenges and the way forward.
“In the time past we would write to the governor asking them to schedule a meeting with us but it was rarely honoured. Ambode is the only one who has taken such initiative maybe because he was once a civil servant and knows the plight of workers,’’ he said.
He also said that the attitude of government officials was affecting the educational system in the state, adding that no nation could develop with the level of education in the country. The unionist also commended the teachers in the state for the success was recorded in the just released Senior School Certificate results.
The NUJ chairman urged other governors to emulate the steps of Ambode as most teachers in the country were either paid half salary or not paid at all.
Adesina said that it was an improvement from previous years while encouraging the teachers to keep up the good work so as to record 70 per cent success in the next senior certificate examination. With this development, the union may like to give an award of the most Friendly Governor in Nigeria to the friendly Akinwunmi Ambode of Lagos state.
