About 30 countries are expected to participate in the 2016 Annual Calabar Carnival, which has been acclaimed the largest street party and the greatest show in Africa.
The countries expected at the carnival which is themed ‘Climate Change’ are; Brazil, Ukraine, China, Italy, Spain, Ghana, Kenya, among others.
Speaking over the weekend at the launch of the Second Carnival Dry-Run, Chairman, Calabar Carnival Commission, Gabriel Onah, said the theme of this year’s carnival which is same as that of 2015, was retained because the issues of environment were still on the front burner.
Mr. Onah, adds that the best form of art and entertainment are being put in place to ensure that tourists who will visit the state for the carnival will have the best of tourism and hospitality.
An excited Mr. Onah recounts that Calabar carnival is 12 years on the road match and the festival experience has so far been amazing. He adds that 30 beauty queens from African countries will also grace the Dry-Run.
Wife of Cross River Governor, Linda Ayade, who flagged off the dry-run, described the theme of the 2016 carnival as unique because of the concern for the environment.
Commissioner for New Cities Development, George Abang-Ekpungu, described the carnival as the largest street party ever; and the greatest show in Africa, adding that the carnival had promoted talent and creativity, as well as united the people of Cross River and Nigeria in general.
A few months back, Cross River state government said it was expecting more than 50,000 guests from across the globe for Calabar Carnival 2016.
Governor Ben Ayade’s government said is determined to develop the state with a view to attracting more investors for business and leisure. The Governor promised to make this year’s carnival the best and fun loving ever.
