IniEkim Edo, popularly known as Ini Edo, is one of Nollywood’s A-list actresses. She is from the Ibibio–speaking people of AkwaIbom state in the south-east, not far from Cross-River State Capital, Calabar.


Born on April 19, 1982, Ini Edo is the second child of her parents who have 4 children. Her mother was a teacher and her father, a church elder.

She graduated from the University of Uyo where she got a Diploma in Theatre Arts. She also completed her Bachelor’s Degree program at the University of Calabar, where she studied English.

Ini Edo’s Marriage And Personal Life

Ini Edo got married to Philip Ehiagwina, a US-based businessman, in November 2008. A-list celebrities were present to witness the long awaited Ini Edo wedding.

However the marriage ended in 2014, following some issues which are yet to be emphasized on. The divorce was quite messy and very much publicized as both Ini and Phillip traded insults and blames concerning the reasons why the marriage ended. The couple had no children from the marriage.

Most recently in 2016, it was rumored that Ini Edo was in a relationship with fellow actor Mike Godson. But she has since shut down the rumors by consistently insisting that there is nothing between them and that they are just friends and colleagues.

Ini Edo’s acting career started in year 2000. She was uncovered by a producer at an audition she attended. Impressed by Ini’s performance, the producer gave her a new role in his movie. Her very first film was “Thick Madam” in 2003.

After working her way to the Top-List in Nollywood with over sixty movies to her credit, Ini Edo has proven to be one of the most popular and talented actresses in Nollywood.

With her profound acting talent, Ini Edo has bagged so many awards as well as nominations for herself. In 2011, she won the ‘Best Indigenous Actress at the Zulu African Film Academy Awards.

She also won ‘Female Viewers Choice’ at the 2013 Golden Icons Academy Movie Awards. She is a winner of the 2013 Nafca award for best actress for the movie ‘Weekend Getaway’.

Ini Edo also won ‘Best Actress – Africa Collaboration’ for the movie ‘While you slept’ at the 2015 Ghana Movie Awards.

She was also nominated for the Bon awards, Nollywood Movies Awards, future awards, among several other nominations.

In 2013, she was announced as judge for the Miss Black Africa Uk Pageant. Also due to her philanthropic gestures, the United Nations appointed her as the United Nations Habitat Youth Envoy.

Ini Edo’s father did not support her acting career at first. Also she did not see herself becoming an actress! She was thinking of going into law or television. But one thing led to the other and she found herself acting.

Also, Apart from her acting career, she participated in charitable trusts. Despite her busy work schedule, she carves out time and energy to visit and assist the less fortunate in the society.
