Nigerian music rapper, Olamide Adeniyi, known by his stage name Olamide and popularly called Badoo,was born on 15th of March, 1989 in Bariga, Lagos state. He hails from Ijebu in Ogun state.
Family And Personal Life
The song star grew up in Bariga, Lagos together with six older siblings.
He is still very much single but has a child and is currently head over heel in love with his longtime girlfriend, Aishat Suleiman.
Olamide was once a part time student of mass communication at the Tai Solarin University.
As a child, Olamide had wanted to be a footballer but later found his feet in the Nigerian music industry. In 2011, the hip hop rapper released his debut studio album ‘Rapsodi‘ under the covering of Coded Tunes. The album’s hit track, “EniDuro” made tremendous waves within and outside Nigeria.
In November 2012, Olamide released his second album, YBLN. The album was taken care of by Tyrone, Pheelz, ID Cabasa and had the backing of singles like “Ilefo Illuminati”, “First of All”, “Stupid Love” and “Voice of the Street”.
YBLN also featured Buckwylla, Kayswitch, Davido, Tiwa Savage, Minus 2 and Base one
Olamide’smusic is mostly done in his native tongue, youruba.
He is also the microphone super star behind the following songs: Ghost mode, Jale Durosoke, Omo to Shan, Bend down low and Yemi my lover.
At the inception of his Olamide’s music career, he was signed to ID Cabasa’s Coded Tunes record label, which was then managed by Toni Payne.
However, the hip-hop artiste left Coded Tunes in 2012 and started his own label YBNL Nation.
On June 4 2016, Olamide took to his Instagram page to announce how boxing legend, Muhammad Ali inspired his last album ‘Eyan Mayweather’. He also seized the opportunity to pay tributes to the boxing legend, who passed away earlier.
On 17 July 2013, Olamide made history by becoming the first Nigerian to sign an endorsement with luxury vodka Ciroc.
The deal, which made him the company’s first Nigerian ambassador put him amongst other international representatives like Rick Ross and French Montana.
On 24 October 2013, the Nigerian rapper also signed a multi-million naira deal with Guinness. Earlier in November 2013, he became an Etisalat ambassador.
Awards and Nominations
Olamide has won several music awards, including the Headies Awards and multiple Nigeria Entertainment Awards.
In 2015, Olamide was awarded ‘Rap Artiste of the Year’ by City People Entertainment Awards. Also, the hip hop star had it big in the 2015 Headies, where he won the Best Street Hop-Artiste of the Year and Best Pop Single.
The Headies 2014 also saw Olamide nominated as the Artiste of the year. In the same year, his track “Dope Money” (featuring Phyno) won ‘Best Rap Single’.
Olamide’s song, “Turn Up” also won 2014 Channel O Music Video Awards and he was crowned World Best Entertainer of the Year in 2014 by World Music Awards.
In 2014 also, Olamide’s song “Eleda Mi” was nominated the most popular Song of the Year.
