You can call her Pokolee, Tontolet, or Emmey J, though originally, her name is Tonto Charity Dikeh-Churchill (or more popular known as simply Tonto Dikeh).
Known for her controversial movie roles on TV, she is one actress/movie star who can be termed as the “doesn’t give a damn” kind of lady. Born on June 9 1985 to Chief & Late [Mrs] Sunny Dikeh, Tonto has her origin traced from Ikwere, Port Harcourt, in Rivers State. She is from a family of seven.
Born into a wealthy family, Tonto is not under the category of stars who gnashed their teeth before hitting the limelight. After her Primary and Secondary education, she obtained an admission into Rivers State University of Science and Technology, Port Harcourt, where she studied Petro-Chemical Engineering. Tonto Dikeh lost her mother 9 sept 1987 when she was only 3 years. Having lost her mother at such early age, her father got married to a second wife who became the “best step mother anyone could ever have” according to the diva.
Journey Into Nollywood
Tonto Dikeh’s journey to stardom started when she featured in a reality TV show, ‘The next movie star’ in 2005. Tonto was the first runner-up on the platform where young and aspiring talents are discovered. The rest for the singing diva was history, after her mind blowing performance on the show. Since then, she has featured in hundreds of hit movies, making her one of the best female celebrities making waves in the Nigerian movie industry at the moment.
One of her very many controversial movies is “Dirty Secret” which contained many nude scenes, and with immoral themes. She was hugely criticized by Nigerians for starring in such a movie which misrepresented what the African continent stands for. However the actress explained she was only being professional in the movie.
Among her very many hit movies are; Battle of the Queens (2014) , Dangerous Beauty (2009), Pounds and Dollars (2006), Games Fools Play (2007), Tea or Coffee (2006), Crisis In Paradise (2007) etc.
It happened that the gorgeous diva at a point in her career, decided to have a taste of the music industry, while still featuring in movies. After miming alongside movie legend Patience Ozorkwor, in a music video owned by Amaco Investments, she decided to make a song of her own. In October 2012, she released her first single ‘HI’ and in 2014 she was signed to Dbanj’s record label, ‘DB’.
She also released a dashing dancehall song ‘Its Ova’ which featured Snypa. She is also known for other singles like; ‘Jeje’, Sheba Popito, and Sugar Rush where she featured D’banj himself. She however announced she was leaving DB records in March 2015.
Tonto is a free spirited actress who does not believe in restricting religious or moral values. She is also known to wear controversial tattoos which she believes is not a hindrance in her acting career.
Tonto has been known to be a chain smoker who has been in the smoking business for a very long time. She however dropped the habit recently saying she made the big decision after prayers with Nigerian Pastor T.B Joshua via his Christian television station Emmanuel TV.
Tonto Dikeh in 2015 got married to Oladunni Churchill who is also a nephew of one time Nigerian President, Olusegun Obasanjo. The couple welcomed a baby boy on February 17, 2016 in the United States of America.
