Chelsea Eze is a Nigerian actress, model, and TV personality who rose to prominence after featuring in her first Nollywood movie, Silent Scandals, where she acted alongside top Nollywood stars Genevieve Nnaji and Majid Michel in 2009. She is also popular for winning the Most Promising Actress Award at the 6th Africa Movie Academy Awards. Chelsea has appeared in some of the most memorable and successful Nollywood movies, including Two brides and A baby, Last Affair, Hood Rush, His Addiction, etc. Before she joined the industry, her only acting experience was in stage plays in her church.
Originally from Umuahia, Chelsea Eze Was Born and Raised in Kano State
Chelsea Ada Linda Ezerioha, professionally known as Chelsea Eze, was born on 15th November 1985 in Kano State, Nigeria. She is a native of Umuahia, Abia State, in the Southeastern part of Nigeria. In an interview she granted recently with the Vanguard, the beautiful actress said that her childhood was fun because Kano was a lovely and peaceful state to live in. She was born and raised in a Christian home, where her father is a retired banker who served in Umuahia, and her mother is a banker-turned-businesswoman.
She said she has three siblings, including two brothers- Ezerioha and Kayce. Her family was a close-knit one that played a part in her life as she began performing stage plays in her church from an early stage. For her secondary school, she went to Federal Government Girl’s College Minjibir and St.Louis Secondary School, both in Kano. She completed her tertiary education at the University of Maiduguri, Borno state, where she graduated with a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc) in English Language and Linguistics in 2007.
She Joined The Nollywood Industry in 2009
Chelsea is not one of those actresses who have passion for acting from childhood and eventually made their way into the industry. Instead, she turned into a successful actress today through sheer chance, hard work, and perseverance. Growing up, Chelsea learned that she is an introvert but decided to change because she perceived that might hinder her from being exactly the kind of a successful woman she desired to be. Hence, she joined a debate club in her school at St.Louis, and from there, she started learning how to express herself and speak in public.
However, while this was going on, Chelsea did not still see herself becoming an actress. Rather, she wanted to be either a lawyer, doctor or an aeronautical engineer. This was happening until 2009 when one of her secondary school friends asked her to accompany her to a movie shoot directed by Emem Isong. She followed her, and the film director Emem Isong spotted her while the audition was going on her and she continued going for an audition.
A few months later, director Isong’s colleague, Vivian Ejike, related to his friend, Isong, that she needed a supporting actress with a certain physique in the movie she was working on. Chelsea would perfectly meet these criteria, so Isong quickly recommended her to Vivian. This was how she got her first role in the Nollywood movie industry, and the rest is history. Thus, it will suffice to say that Chelsea became an actress by luck. Yet, she has grown to become talented in her craft, perfectly interpreting any role given to her.
Chelsea Eze Became a Household Name After Her Appearance in Silent Scandals
Silent Scandals is a 2009 Nigerian romantic drama film directed by T.K. Falope. The movie produced by Vivian Ejike also starred Genevieve, Nnaji, Majid Micheal, Ebele Okaro, and Uche Jombo. Though she only played a supporting role in the movie as Ella, the romantic drama film launched her into the consciousness of many Nigerians.
Hence, it became obvious that Chelsea’s breakthrough moments would come as she began to get more roles. Those moments came quite early when she appeared in two popular movies, Two Brides and a Baby and Hood Rush. Thus, the Nollywood talent began her steady rise to the top of the ladder in the movie industry, and since then, she has been featured in numerous movies, and most of them are romantic movies.
