List of Colleges of Education in Nigeria and Where They Are Located

There are over 100 colleges of education in Nigeria, and they range from federal, state, and private institutions. The colleges are located in different parts of the country in the 6 geo-political zones that encompass the 36 States and the FCT.

The beginning of colleges of education in Nigeria traces as far back as the 1950s with the creation of Ansar-Ud-Deen College of Education and the Federal College of Education, Kano. Generally, the entire colleges offer Nigeria Certificate in Education (NCE), and a number of them offer bachelor’s and have affiliations to other universities.

Among the colleges, the Federal College of Education (Special), Oyo, is said to be the only college of education in Nigeria that offers training in special education in order to provide help for special people. It has been listed as one of the best in central Africa.

Furthermore, the colleges of education in Nigeria may continue to increase in the progression of time. Also, they continue to increase the number of courses, and rather than sticking to only having students graduate with an NCE, they also offer undergraduate courses through affiliations with top Nigerian universities.

Finally, some of the colleges have transitioned to be changed into a university. One of the few is the Federal College of Education, Pankshin, which was upgraded to a Federal University of Education.
