The college has over 16,000 students while the staff are about 1,600. Admission requirements are an essential criterion used by the school to decide candidates eligible for admission into the college. For a candidate to gain admission into YABATECH, they must meet all the admission requirements.
As a prestigious school in Nigeria, many students will give up anything to study at YABATECH. On the other hand, this has made the institution more competitive. The institution has a strict admission requirement for UTME and Direct Entry candidates. The College frowns at being a second choice and does not give admission to candidates who placed them as the second choice during the application process.
Prospective students are regularly updated on the college admission screening exercise via the institution’s website. The admissions review required Jamb score and O’level results are usually discussed on the website. YABATECH student admission is decided by calculating and adding a candidate’s Jamb and O’level results. That said, student admission requirements at YABATECH are as follows:
- Candidates seeking admission at YABATECH must possess Five O’level Credits in different subjects, including English Language and Mathematics, in WAEC/NECO/GCE/NABTEB, or any equivalent result.
- Applicants must score at least 180 in their JAMB UTME examination to be considered for admission in YABATECH.

- Prospective students must take part in the YABATECH Post UTME screening and record a good test score.
- Those who wish to join YABATECH via Direct Entry must purchase and register for YABATECH DE through JAMB direct entry form.
Note: YABATECH accepts UTME and Direct Entry aspirants who combine results. However, it is limited to a maximum of two sittings. You can see the acceptable result combinations here. International students can also apply through direct entry.

The URL for the YABATECH student application portal is https://erp.yabatech.edu.ng/yabaapplication/admissions/applynow. This portal is open for all prospective students, including part-time and full-time students. However, the process of application defers. Therefore, you should endeavor to select suitable options for your application.
How to Apply for Admission at YABATECH Through The Application Portal
- Visit the YABATECH student application portal
- Click on “Step 1” to Generate a Payment invoice.
- After that, enter your Jamb registration number, Email & Phone number to validate the Jamb Uploaded list.
- Ensure you preview the Jamb details to ensure they are correct, then click on “Generate Invoice.”
- With the invoice, proceed to any bank to make the payment or through the ATM/Debit card.
- After the payment, return to the registration portal and click “Step 2.”
- On the next page, input the RRR number to validate the payment made through Remita.
- Log in with your Jamb Reg No or email and surname to fill out the application form.
- Afterward, Print the Application Slip.
- Pay for O’Level Verification.
Steps on How to Check YABATECH Admission Status
Prospective candidates are required to follow the steps below to check their YABATECH admission status.
Step 1: Prospective students are required to go to the college’s portal at https://erp.yabatech.edu.ng/yabaapplication/admissions/adm_status_default_page.
Step 2: To log in, the candidates must enter their Jamb registration number in the space provided. Then select the options that apply to you.
Step 3: Click on the check admission status icon. Once this is done, the admission status will be displayed.
Note: Prospective students whose name appeared on the admission list must enroll and pay the relevant fees, including the acceptance fee and school fees, before they are permitted to attend classes.
At YABATECH, school fees are paid yearly or per session. Any student who fails to make their payments on time will be mandated to pay a late fee. Like some other universities and institutions in Nigeria, the school fees are paid online through the school website to avoid being duped.
Where is YABATECH Located?
YABATECH was established in the metropolis of Yaba in Lagos State in October 1947. Yaba Technology Institute, as it was previously called, is a household name among the educational institutions in Nigeria. It has two main campuses; the first main campus is at Yaba while the second is located at Epe, which houses the Michael Otedola Information and Technology Centre and the Department of Agricultural Technology. The institution has eight schools, thirty-four academic departments, sixty-four ND, HND, and post HND programs.
In collaboration with Federal University Technology Akure and the University of Nigeria Nsukka, it offers post-graduate diploma in Engineering and BSc (Ed) courses in technical and vocational education. The college runs both full-time and part-time study programs.

On September 23, 1963, the institute was renamed Yaba College of Technology by the then Governor-General of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Rt. Hon. Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe, while unveiling the Engineering Block donated by Shell Petroleum.

Is YABATECH Now a University?
No, YABATECH is still a federal polytechnic, but the proposal for the institution to be converted to a City university is currently at its advanced level. The transition was decided during the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting held in Abuja in 2019. During the meeting, YABATECH and Kaduna polytechnic were proposed to be converted to the City University of Technology, respectively.
Before then, Senator Gbenga Ashafa was the first to sponsor and read the bill in November
16, 2016, in the red chamber. According to him, “the university will encourage the
advancement of learning among other benefits.” The second bill reading took place in
March 2020, with senator Adeola leading the debate.
He argued that the upgrade would stimulate our economic needs for requisite, technical, scientific, and technological skills for its effective operation. Be it as it may, the college isn’t quite there yet but a work in progress to become a university. Currently, the paperwork for the conversion of YABATECH into a university is said to be ongoing at the Federal level.
Can I Enter YABATECH Without JAMB?
Yes, students who wish to pursue a part-time program at YABATECH don’t need JAMB to enroll in the institution. However, they must possess five O’Level credits in subjects, including English Language and Mathematics. More so, you must be at least 18 years and above and must purchase the part-time admission form from the institution. Similarly, full-time students need JAMB before they can be admitted into the institution.
