Adekunle Gold

Adekunle Kosoko, popularly known by his stage name Adekunle Gold, is a Nigerian singer, songwriter and graphic designer.

He describes his genre of music as urban highlife. His 2014 single “Sade” received massive airplays on various Nigerian radio stations. His follow-up single, titled “Orente”, also received positive reviews from music critics and consumers. In 2015, he was nominated in the Most Promising Act of the Year category at the 2015 City People Entertainment Awards, and was also nominated in the “Best Alternative Song” category at The Headies 2015 for his song titled “Sade”.

Adekunle is currently signed to YBNL Nation.



Adekunle Gold, is no stranger to the Nigerian music industry. He wrote his first song at the age of 15 and started out singing in his early teens as a member of the junior church choir.

Adekunle Gold, a graduate of Lagos State Polytechnic with a degree in Graphics, formed a band The Bridge with best friend, Seyikeyz, in 2010 and they released four songs “No sleeping on a bicycle”, “Norm Breaker” featuring Skales and “All of me” (John legend cover). In 2013, he Left The Bridge to debut as a solo act. Having identified his style of music, he released a song titled “Let it stop”, a song about peace for the nation.

According to Adekunle, his dad always played classical songs by King Sunny Ade and Ebenezer Obey while he drove them to school every day. And listening to these men, Adekunle developed an intense interest and love for music.

The popular singer was quite known for his Photoshop skills in the social media back in 2013. When asked in an interview about his Photoshops and his music career he said:

 “Photoshop is fun; I love the way it makes people laugh and the attention I get. I do not like to be the ordinary guy; I like to be known for something.”



In 2014, he released his version of One Direction’s ‘Story Of My Life”, which he titled ‘SADE’. This song enjoyed massive airplay and got him signed to YBNL.

When he released “Sade”, Fuse and the rest of the YBNL crew listened to it and fell in love with it. Fuse insisted Olamide should sign him with the group. Because of the good relationship he had with Olamide, Adekunle got a call and they discussed the terms.

Even before the deal had been through the line, Adekunle mentioned in an interview a little bit about his imminent deal with YBNL. In the interview, he said he has been working with Olamide for a long time. And long before the talks to sign him, he had designed the YBNL logo, as well as done a couple designs for the label.

Later in 2015 Adekunle released another single under YBNL titled “Orente”, the song was quite accepted by fans and became a hit in the same year.

Adekunle’s two singles were heavy on storytelling. They both take listeners through a tale of romance, which has been instrumental in the success of both singles. In contrast, the rest of the YBNL artistes are pacy rappers. The singer believes that there is a connection between his genre and indigenous rap.

Adekunle Gold released the videos of his two hit singles which also gained a lot of views in 2015 as the singer’s video style is loved by many people. When asked, he said 2015 was a great year for him.

In the same year Adekunle Gold went ahead to beat the likes of Olamide and others to cop the Beat Of Lagos 2015 Award.

Rumours have it that Adekunle is romantically involved with fellow singer Simi, as there are several pictures of them on the internet lending credence to the gossip. Some people even claim they had been together before they both found fame. Neither of the singers have either confirmed or denied the rumours.
