Steve Crown Okolo is a Nigerian gospel music artist whose music career soared after his first hit song “You are Great” took the market by storm. “I have been into music since I was a kid,” Steve told Vanguard in an interview. “I grew up to see my parents in the music world. I was born into an orthodox family, and we go to church where we do all the sofa notes—Do-Re-Mi-Fa Hu-Ha-Ha—and I got to learn from mum.”
As he grew older, he joined the choir in his local church at St John’s Anglican Church and later became part of the famous children’s happiness club named Deacon Kids Band. But despite being introduced to music at a very tender age, Steve said he never thought of building a career in music. According to him, he has always wanted to be a lawyer, so music is a path God chose for him and he is grateful for it. “This is how God arrests someone and chooses a path and it has been exciting and I am grateful to God.”

“You are Great” announced Steve Crown to the world. The video of the title song of the same name was officially released on October 9, 2016, and was directed by C-ri Snow. The song garnered millions of views from both gospel music lovers and others.
When asked if he was expecting the huge success his first album recorded, Steve said he didn’t see it coming. “I just wanted to worship God in the choir and after just take my bag and go back home. I just wanted God’s presence and I wasn’t looking to become famous or do a song that will go everywhere or any such thing. I have always wanted to be a lawyer, but what God does is allow you do your thing, but when He’s ready to use you He intervenes.”
