Gregory Mecher started his political career as a college student at Northern Kentucky University, where he served as the student representative to the Board of Regents. Upon graduation, one of his fellow students assisted him to secure an internship with Kentucky congressman Ken Lucas who represented the 4th district of Kentucky from 1999 to 2005.

According to Mecher, the internship helped in solidifying his desire to carry on with politics as a career, and ever since then, he has been working in Washington D. C. As of 2010, Mecher was working as a chief of staff to Congressman Steve Driehaus of Ohio who represented the first district of Ohio for a term from 2009 to 2011.

He later served as a chief of staff to Congressman Joe Kennedy III of Massachusetts, which is his most recent position. Mecher worked there from 2013 to 2021. He also worked as Deputy National Finance Director at the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, where he met his wife. How Did Jen Psaki and Gregory Mecher Meet?

From what is obvious, Gregory and his famous wife Jen share an interest in politics. The couple met for the first time in 2006 when they were both working at the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee. According to Mecher, Psaki had just taken up a new role as the Midwest and Northeast Regional Press Secretary while he was working as a deputy finance director.

They had their first conversation over the phone, after which Psaki invited him to an event. Mecher traveled with Rahm Emanuel, who was then the chair of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, but unfortunately, he found out that Psaki gave him the wrong direction to the location.

However, he and Rahm eventually arrived at the right event center, and rather than getting upset about the inconvenience Psaki caused him, he outrightly forgave her because he found her instantly attractive.

Back at the Washington, D.C. headquarters, it was difficult for Gregory to get the attention of Psaki because she usually stayed very focused while at work. Even though they had their desks situated near each other, it still proved to be a tough nut to crack. According to Mecher, he would often walk past Psaki’s desk in a bid to get her attention.

But then, there was no way to get her attention as she would either be focused on her computer typing or speaking with someone over the telephone. “Whenever I would do it, she had the headset on, talking on the phone…” Gregory told the Post. However, in September 2006, he finally gathered the nerves to ask her out for dinner via email. She accepted, and after the date, the rest became history.

After the 2008 election, Mecher and Psaki moved in together. A few months later, he proposed to her, and after two years, on 8th May 2010, they exchanged marital vows in a wedding ceremony held at the Woodlawn Farm in Ridge, Maryland, and officiated by a Protestant minister.

Do The Couple Have Any Kids Together?

Gregory Mecher and Jen Psaki are proud parents to two children; a daughter and a son. Psaki’s Tweet bio reads, “Mom of two humans…” The couple meanwhile delayed for some years after they had been married to have a child. They welcomed their first child, a daughter named Genevieve Mecher, in June 2015, and three years later, in 2018, their son Mathew Mecher joined the family.

Genevieve and Matthew are currently 8 and 6 years old, respectively, and their parents primarily keep them out of the spotlight. Mecher and Psaki are together raising their children in their home in Virginia after moving from Washington, D.C. The couple, in 2018, purchased their single-family house for $1.638 million
