Alejandrina Maria Salazar And El Chapo Got Married in Jesús María, Mexico.

Alejandrina Maria Salazar is the first legally married wife of the Mexican drug baron, Joaquín Guzmán, aka El Chapo. Nothing is known about their relationship before they tied the knot, however, both of them are from Culiacan Sinaloa, Mexican, which is possibly where they first met. According to multiple accounts, Alejandrina Maria and Joaquin Guzman got married in the year 1977 in Jesús María, Mexico.

While there’s no information about their wedding, it is believed that it must have been attended by a reasonable number of family members, friends, and associates of the couple. Meanwhile, it is known that Guzman was already in the drug business before then.

For context, Joaquín Guzmán, one of the most powerful drug lords of all time, was popularly known as “El Chapo” (meaning “shorty” due to his height). He was the leader and founder of the Sinaloa Cartel, a criminal enterprise involved in drug trafficking throughout the world.

He made billions of dollars from illicit activities such as drug trafficking, money laundering, bribery, and homicides. He lived a high-profile lifestyle and accumulated great wealth and power in Mexico.

Despite reports of abuse from Joaquín Guzmán, Alejandrina María Salazar Hernández stayed married to him for 16 years, raising five children together. Through it all, Alejandrina has remained an unwavering figure in Joaquín’s life, offering support and stability through his legal and personal struggles. To this day, she still maintains a relationship with him and some of their children.

They Have Five Children Together

Multiple reports have stated that Alejandrina Maria and Joaquin Guzman’s union produced three children namely; César Joaquin Guzman, Iván Archivaldo, and Jesús Alfredo Joaquin Guzman. However, according to a published book, “Emma and the Other Narco Women,” it is recorded that they gave birth to five children together.

The names of the other two children are not disclosed which equally adds to the mystery surrounding the 65-year-old social worker. The dates and places where all Alejandrina’s children were born have also remained unknown.

Out of the three aforementioned children, Alejandrina Maria’s son, Iván Archivaldo, was deeply involved in the family business. He was arrested by the police in Guadalajara Jalisco, Mexico in February 2005 and sentenced to five years in prison. But he was released in April 2008 due to the lack of evidence needed to prosecute him.

Not much is known about Alejandrina’s other children’s activities or what they are currently into. However, multiple reports have it that the whole El Chapo family was in one way or the other involved in the family’s business of drug trafficking and money laundering. It remains to be seen what becomes of the children of Alejandrina and El Chapo who are all grown up now and are involved in activities of their own.

She is Still Legally Married to Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman

Although they are not currently together as El Chapo is currently serving a life in prison sentence, they are, however, still legally married. Her husband was convicted on seven-count drug-related charges and is currently held at the ADX Florence Supermax federal prison in Fremont County near Florence, Colorado. The facility is operated by the Federal Bureau of Prisons, a division of the United States Department of Justice.

They may still be legally married, but Alejandrina Salazar is not the only legally married wife of El Chapo, and definitely not the only woman in his life. According to reports, at the age of 30, El Chapo fell in love with a bank clerk named Estela Peña of Nayarit, whom he kidnapped and with whom he had sexual relations. Not much is known about her, but it is confirmed that they later married.

Sometime around 1980, Guzmán got married once more. This time it was to Griselda López Pérez, not much is known of her too, but they had four children together namely: Édgar, Joaquín Jr., Ovidio, and Griselda Guadalupe. Guzmán had his Lopez and sons follow him into the drug business. She was later arrested in 2010 in Culiacán.

In November 2007, Guzmán married an 18-year-old American beauty queen, Emma Coronel Aispuro. Emma is the daughter of one of his top deputies, Inés Coronel Barreras (a man), in Canelas, Durango. In August 2011, she gave birth to twin girls, Maria Joaquina and Emali Guadalupe, in Los Angeles County Hospital, California. Emma confessed to being part of the drug business. She was sentenced to a 36-months jail term.

What Happened to El Chapo’s Wife?

Alejandrina Salazar has been placed on a United States sanction list and is prohibited from conducting business in and around Mexico. However, it is believed that she still runs a portion of the existing family business after her husband’s incarceration.

She still lives in the ranch home her husband, Joaquin Guzman, set up for her and his children in Jesús María. Other than this, there is little information available regarding her  current occupation.
