Because she was raised by her mother since she was a little girl, following the failed relationship between Diana Ross and Gordy, Rhonda did not have anything to do with Berry until she was a young teenager.
In fact, she had no idea that he was her father as she grew up believing that she was biologically Robert Ellis Silberstein’s daughter. This is because Diana found out she was pregnant after she got married to Robert, and they both knew that the baby was Berry’s either way, Silberstein still decided to step in and play the role of the father when the baby came, which was why it was named after him.
