Congratulating the people of Bayelsa for the victorious outcome of their gubernatorial election held on Saturday 5th and Sunday 6th December 2015, Ekiti State governor Ayodele Fayose says he is proud of Bayelsans for their fight against the political oppression of the ruling party. According to him, the All progressive Congress (APC) were out to create a state of anarchy through their immodest acts to manipulate and control all Nigerian states but that the people of Bayelsa have made it impossible.
Though the election which started on Saturday covering the eight local governments of Bayelsa had a total of 20 candidates fielding for the same position, it was obvious that the fight was majorly between two parties – the APC and the PDP. After about two failed attempts by the INEC under the leadership of Prof Mahmood Yakubu to conduct a successful election in the state, the Ekiti State governor described it as a move by Buhari and his party to destroy the concept of democracy in the country.
Speaking further through his Special Assistant on Public Communications and New Media, Lere Olayinka, the Governor said the INEC’s declaration of the 2days election in Bayelsa as inconclusive was also a clear indication of the failed state of the Buhari government.
If in three days, INEC could not conduct credible election in Bayelsa state of just eight local governments, one wonders what will happen during the general elections in 2019. The simple reality is that INEC under this Buhari’s kinsman, Prof Yakubu, who is fast becoming the classical example of incompetence, cannot guarantee free and fair elections in this country,
Fayose added that the fact that people of Bayelsa were able to stand their ground against “agents of darkness” who were out to impose on them a candidate to rule them, shows they are “worthy to be the Heroes of Democracy”
Governor Fayose also congratulated the Bayelsa State Governor and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Seriake Dickson for having the people of Bayelsa behind him, adding that “the people of Bayelsa have shown that their power is “more than that of the Abuja political oppressors.”
Declaring that the battle isn’t over yet for the Bayelsans, Fayose urged them not to be ignorant of the devices of the APC thieves to create more problems and destroy the peace of the state.
Now that they have failed in their bid to use one local government to rig themselves to power, they will surely go back to their evil drawing board to plan fresh assaults. Therefore, Bayelsa people must henceforth sleep with their two eyes open because the APC thieves come not only to steal, but to kill and that can be seen in the way and manner they murdered over 20 people just because they wanted power at all cost
Fayose further warned all Nigerians especially his own state – Ekiti, to learn from the events that had happened in the last two elections that has taken place in Kogi and Bayelsa, in order to prepare squarely for future elections.
Though the declaration of the electoral results has been suspended indefinitely by INEC until the Ijaw South election was conducted, the incumbent governor- Seriake Dickson of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), seems to be having the upper hand above his major opponent – Timpre Sylva of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
