He got the name from his birth month, &#8220;July&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>Along the line, the artist felt that the name was not catchy enough and people would not understand the idea behind it. Hence, he decided to opt for a different name &#8220;Crayon&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>As regards how he got the name Crayon, the artist derived inspiration from a bead bag made by his sister. According to him, the bag was colorful and as he gazed upon it, &#8220;Crayon&#8221; immediately came to his mind. The name was meant to protect him as a colorful boy with color music.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>How Crayon Became a Famous Musician<\/strong><\/h2>\n<h3><strong>He Started Music at 16<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Crayon identified his interest early in life and at a point, he joined the choir but since he was shy, he left the group but would hum songs and would continue to sing in his comfort zone. It was only a matter of time before the<em> Ijo (Laba Laba)<\/em> crooner started honing his creativity through songwriting.<\/p>\n<p>In 2016 (at the age of 16), his friend moved to his neighborhood and had a studio in Ojoba Barracks called Much More Studios. Knowing that he wanted to make professional music, Crayon would visit the studio and there, he met music producer Ozedikus Nwanne who was at the time also learning music production. It took Crayon only about 30 minutes to record his song <em>Orobo Love &#8211;\u00a0<\/em>a song he now considers wack.<\/p>\n<p>The artist was not discouraged but continued to release songs and share them on social media. He also went to different parts of Lagos to share his music with different radio stations. Although many of these stations never played them, the few that did led to him being popular in his neighborhood. The first radio station to play his song was City 105.1 FM.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Crayon was Signed to Mavins in 2019\u00a0<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Crayon finally got noticed in 2018 when a Mavin Records producer named Baby Fresh played his song while at the Mavin Headquarters. Unfortunately, their visit to the studio was not hitch-free as the men had to wait three hours. Regardless, they were patient enough to finally meet Don Jazzy who immediately after listening to the singer&#8217;s Long Throat, offered to work with him.<\/p>\n<p>In the earliest times after meeting Jazzy, Crayon continued shuffling mainland and island and would mostly sleep at Baby Fresh&#8217;s residence.<\/p>\n<p>Still, in 2018, the young artist learned about the music business, found his sound, and a lot of other vital things he would need as an artist. Shortly afterward, he recorded &#8220;So Fine&#8221; and the public took note of his unique sound. Also, he recorded his &#8220;Cray Cray&#8221; EP in 2018 before he was officially signed to the label in 2019. The EP gave the world good music in form of <em>So Fine<\/em> and<em> Gock Am<\/em> which quickly became anthems among music lovers.<\/p>\n<p>He also joined the Mavin crew to record <em>All is in Order<\/em>. He recorded the last verse of the song and it further added to his fame.
