The Supreme Court Justices in Nigeria are currently 13 in number including the Chief Justice. The Nigerian constitution stipulates that the supreme court justices be 21 in number including the chief justice. These justices are appointed by the President of Nigeria under the recommendation of the National Judicial Council (NJC), and with the approval of the Nigerian Senate.<\/strong><\/p>\n

For the appointment as a justice, there are certain criteria one must attain. Firstly, the individual must be a qualified lawyer who has practiced law in Nigeria; and secondly, he must have been in the practice for at least 15 years. If appointed, the retirement age is 70 years.<\/p>\n
