However, the couple managed to relocate to the United Kingdom in the quest for a better life.<\/p>\n<p>Their relocation came with challenges as they did not have the required immigration papers. Yet, they lasted several years without facing the law. The family struggled with finances and Dorcas&#8217; father had to street hawk, drive cabs, and work as a night security guard to make ends meet and care for his family.<\/p>\n<p>Amidst the struggle and not possessing the required document to be in the United Kingdom, her mother was deported when Dorcas was only 2 years old. This forced the actress to grow up without her mother.<\/p>\n<p>Also, Dorcas&#8217; parents were involved in a messy divorce around 1993\/1994 after her mother returned to Nigeria. The divorce led to her father closing all communication between mother and children. Dorcas <a href=\"https:\/\/pmnewsnigeria.com\/2022\/01\/13\/my-dad-lied-to-me-about-my-mum-actress-shola-fapson\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">grew up hating her mother<\/a> because her father had told her that her mother abandoned them to return to Nigeria. Unfortunately, the actress only met her mother once after returning to Nigeria in 2005 before her mum died in childbirth<\/p>\n<h2><strong>She Had a Difficult Childhood and Went to School in 3 Countries<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Dorcas dealt with growing up in the slums of London. She also had to deal with a rough and violent lifestyle and would also often get herself in fights while attending school in the UK where she was residing with her father and brother.<\/p>\n<p>Along the line, misbehavior got her kicked out of school. This led to her missing school for about a year before she and her brother were sent back to Nigeria to live with extended family and attend school.<\/p>\n<p>In Nigeria, the\u00a0<em>Shuga\u00a0<\/em>actress attended United Missionary Comprehensive College in Ibadan, Oyo State. After a while, she had to change schools because she kept picking up fights with students.<\/p>\n<p>Dorcas Fapson went on to attend Wisdom Gate High School in Ikeja, Lagos. While in the country, she got to know about the Shuga series audition from her agent in London who encouraged her to try it out since it was on an international front.<\/p>\n<p>Her breakthrough came when Biyi Bandele, the director of the series called to invite her out to Nigeria for filming a few days after she sent a self-made tape sample of her skill.<\/p>\n<p>Her appearance in series 3 of MTV&#8217;s <em>Shuga<\/em> soap opera which was shot in 2013 got her a place in the acting world. It also became the beginning of her journey to stardom as it opened the door for several other roles and career pursuits.<\/p>\n<p>Before the glitz and glamour, however, she was cast as a lead role to play &#8220;Aunty Funke&#8221; in <em>Oliva Tweest<\/em> at the<a href=\"https:\/\/www.imdb.com\/name\/nm6170422\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> first Afrobeats Musical in London<\/a>&#8216;s West End Lyric Theatre.<\/p>\n<p>In 2017, she got a role in the multi-award-winning <em>Banana Island Ghost<\/em>.
