The University of Ibadan, popularly known as UI, was established in 1949 as the first university in Nigeria. However, it started as a College of the University of London and was called University College, Ibadan, until it became an independent institution in 1962. The institution was established with the motto “To think straight is the fount of knowledge” (Recte Sapere Fons).<\/p>\n

Originally offering academic programs in Arts, Science, and Medicine, the University of Ibadan is currently a citadel of learning. They offer academic programs in 16 Faculties and have accommodated and trained thousands of graduates and postgraduates. Added to these, it offers programs for distance learning.<\/p>\n

The university has been able to raise a lot of Nigerians, among which are some celebrities. Notable alumni of the University of Ibadan include Wole Soyinka<\/a>, Chinua Achebe<\/a>, Emeka Anyaoku, Christopher Okigbo, and Kole Omotosho.
