Rotimi&#8217;s father ran for councillorship during his time, but it is not certain if he won any political seat. Sadly, his mother, Mary Amaechi, is also late.<\/p>\n<p>Growing up in Rivers, he got his First School Leaving Certificate<ins> in 1976 after graduating<\/ins> from St Theresa&#8217;s Primary School<ins>.<\/ins> <ins>He<\/ins> obtained\u00a0his West African Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (WASSCE) from Federal Government College Okolobiri. The lure to improve his lot amongst his peers made him proceed and <ins>enroll<\/ins> at the prestigious University of Port Harcourt, where he got a Bachelor of Arts Degree (Hons) in English and Literary Studies in 1987<ins>.<\/ins><\/p>\n<p><ins>While<\/ins> <ins>in school, Rotimi<\/ins> was<ins> also<\/ins> the President of the National Union of Rivers State Students (NURSS). On December 8, 2018, he was conferred with an honorary doctorate award by the Kaduna State University (KASU). Amaechi has currently enrolled as a student of Law at Baze University Abuja. Although there is not enough information about his siblings, it is known that the transportation minister had an elder brother who is now late.<\/p>\n<p>His brother, Oha Charles Amaechi, fondly called &#8216;Dede,&#8217; died at the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital (UPTH) on June 12, 2020, after being severely injured in a car accident. He was buried in his country home Ubima, Rivers State, on September 12, 2020. It must have been the political prowess he possessed that made him launch a career in politics and leadership. After completing the one-year compulsory National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in 1988, Amaechi joined the services of Pamo Clinics and Hospitals Limited owned by Peter Odili, the former Governor of Rivers State, where he worked until 1992.<\/p>\n<p>Peter Odili sensed Rotimi Amaechi would make a great politician, so he adopted him as a political son and led him through his early political journey. Between 1992 and 1994, Amaechi served as the Secretary of the defunct National Republican Convention (NPC) in Ikwere Local Government. After that, he was appointed Special Assistant to the Deputy Governor of Rivers State, Peter Odili, who became his mentor. He also served as a director of several companies, including West Africa Glass Industry Limited and Risonpalm Nigeria Limited.<\/p>\n<p>In 1996, Amaechi became the Rivers State&#8217;s Secretary of the<ins> <\/ins>Democratic Party of Nigeria<ins>\u00a0<\/ins>(DPN)<ins>.<\/ins> <ins>He<\/ins> was a member of the caretaker committee during the transition <ins>program<\/ins> of then military leader General<ins> <\/ins>Sanni_Abacha junta. The companies had the following names; Advante Consulting and Management Company, Result Imports Experts Company, and Capital Ltd, respectively.<\/ins><\/li>\n<li>In August 2015, The Integrity Group, a non-governmental organization, sent a petition to President Buhari and the Economic Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) Chairman to investigate Amaechi for the over N70 Billion stolen from the Rivers State government during his tenure as Executive Governor.<\/li>\n<li>On the Amanpour Show on Cable News Network CNN, the presenter claimed that Amaechi has been accumulating money in a foreign U.S. Bancorp\/Minnesota account amounting to over US$757 million.<\/li>\n<li>The House of Representatives summoned the Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, and the Management of the Nigeria Port Authority, Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), over the unremitted sum of N166 Billion revenue generated by the Authority as of December 31, 2016. During his ministerial screening with the Senate, he was asked an important question concerning allegations of corruption leveled against him. But the former Governor of Rivers State Rotimi Amaechi said he has never taken a bribe in his life. It should be noted that Amaechi has vehemently denied all allegations of financial mismanagement, calling it fake news.
