Released in July 2016, the Infinix Hot 4 has some amazing features, including a 5.5 inches, 720 x 1280 px Display, Helio MT6580, Quad Core, 1.3 GHz Processor, Dual Sim, 3G, 4G, Wi-Fi, and an 8 MP rear and 5 MP front camera among others.

Although the Infinix Hot 4 is not a replica of the Techno Phantom 5, it comes with some very nice features. Looking back, the Hot Series of Infinix is one of the most popular and accepted phone series in Nigeria. Since its launch in 2014, it has got a massive followership for two reasons; the cheapness and the functionality.

Down to 2016 when the Infinix Hot 4 was released, the followership was still there, and the phone seemed like a piece that would get the market still going. Over one year later, there is no disappointment on its part.

Personally, I think even though the phone has had to grapple with competition from different companies including Tecno and Gionee, and even those producing higher-end phones, it has still managed to do well.

For a better perspective, let’s look at the Infinix Hot 4 and its real-world performance.

Infinix Hot 4 build quality and design

Infinix has maintained almost a similar design in the Hot series, and the Infinix Hot 4 doesn’t come entirely different. Still, there is something good to take home when you want aesthetics.

The phone doesn’t look entirely plastic, but that is what it is made of; 3D textured plastic as Infinix calls it. It is the first of its kind that I’ve come across in phones, and to be honest, it looks as good as metal with a promise of durability.

Maybe because of the texture, it is interesting to hold, even as it is a 5.5-inch piece and a little bigger than the Hot 3 which comes as the earlier version.

Infinix made the phone with its XOS interface which is very comfortable to work with. It makes the control panel to be comfortable in a very different way and navigation is very easy.

With 2 sims, the phone doesn’t support 4G internet connection which for me, is a drawback.

What is arguably the best feature this phone possesses is the fingerprint sensor it makes use of. With this sensor, you can easily have your phone locked using your finger and have it unlocked without the inconvenience that can sometimes come with the use of a password.

Because it comes with a large non-removable battery, the phone is a little bit on the weighty side, though not too heavy to seem like a cross. It weighs 175 grams even as the Infinix Hot 3 only weighs 141 grams.

Sound Quality

I am really impressed with the phone when it comes to the sound quality which I find to be mostly crisp and natural. Unless you want to go back to those days of very noisy sounds from phones in the name of music, this should not disappoint you.

Because it is not as loud as you may imagine, this phone is not the best for outdoor use. But once you try it indoors, it should not disappoint.

If like some of us you prefer listening from the earphones, the quality is even more soothing and complete most especially if you are using the pair of earphones that come with the phone or a pair that has good sound quality.

Infinix Hot 4 Camera

"Infinix

The only place that got me a little disappointed with the phone is the camera. It is not as though it falls below the standard, instead, it sticks with the standard 8MP back camera that comes with most others. I really expected more from it.

However, it manages to compensate with the front camera as instead of the standard 2MP coming with many others, it has risen the bar to give up to 5MP. Both the front and back cameras are designed with a flashlight as such there is that assurance that you can take good pictures with both when there is light and in the dark.

Even when you want to have HD videos at 1080 pixels, you should be able to achieve that with the camera.

Memory and storage

The Infinix Hot 4 comes with a memory of 2GB RAM. This is rather great for the phone because there are many others in the same line that only give 1 GB RAM. It even gets better when you know that the RAM is expected to work with an internal storage of 16GB.

Even though 16GB internal space is not bad, Android applications are coming heavier than ever, and there are many songs and other things to download. As such if the 16GB doesn’t serve you well, you have the opportunity to expand by up to 64GB.

Still, with the 64GB expanded storage, I do not see the RAM getting sluggish on you, so it’s win-win stuff.

Processor and Software

The Infinix Hot 4 is powered by a 1.3 GHz quad-core processor and runs on the Android 6.0 Marshmallow. While I appreciate the processor, it is not the best out there.

I will not say I am much of a gamer, but playing games on this phone is just amazing. Trying out Killer Bean and PES, there is excellent responsiveness. That is to show the processor is not in the least sense bad. But as I have indicated, it is not the best either.

Battery

I find the battery runtime of the Infinix Hot 4 to be more than just decent. In fact, it is very good even though not the best in the market.

A non-removable 4000mAh battery should serve for more than 24 hours if you are not a heavy phone user. If on the other hand, you are a heavy phone user, it should get you somewhere between 8 and 10 hours before it runs out.

It even gets better when you consider the charge time. Between 2hrs 15 mins and 2hrs 40 minutes, your phone should be fully charged even if you allow it to fully drain out.
