Ayodeji Ibrahim Balogun, better known by his stage name Wizkid, according to a recent chart, is the 12th most downloaded artiste on worldwide iTunes/Spotify. The 25-year old was the only Nigerian artiste listed among 200 artistes from around the world. The ranking is heavily influenced by his hit collaboration with Canadian rapper Drake and Kyla ‘One Dance’.
Drake and Beyonce take up number one and two spots with 5331 and 3695 points respectively. Rihanna is number three with 3310 points. Wizkid earned 1248 points with 49 number one singles from 9 albums. Sia, Justin Bieber, Coldplay, Calvin Harris, Mike Posner, The Chainsmokers, Ariana Grande, Justin Timberlake, Fifth Harmony and Prince complete the top ten.
Wizkid‘s ‘One Dance’, a hit collaboration with Drake and Kyla is currently number one on the Billboard Hot 100. It is currently number one on charts from 17 countries, including the United States, United Kingdom, France, Germany, Australia, Belgium, Netherlands, New Zealand and Greece. ‘Ojuelegba’ reached the #8th spot in Trinidad and Tobago, #15 in Ghana, #31 in Uganda and #59 in Nigeria.
According to DJ Maphorisa, a co-producer of ‘One dance’, there are more collaborations in the works for Wizkid and Drake. Renowned Nigerian producer Sarz, has also confirmed that Wizkid will collaborate with R&B artist Chris Brown and Nigerian-American rapper Jidenna.
Wizkid has a son named Boluwatife. He has a tattoo of his son’s name on his right arm alongside an image of the legendary Afro singer, Fela Anikulapo Kuti, who is the artiste’s major influence. He released his first album at the age of 11. He is currently signed to Disturbing London after leaving EME. He recently feuded with blogger, Linda Ikeji, after the blogger and former model exposed the singer’s Lekki home to be actually rented. She also criticised him for failing to appear at shows after being paid for them.
