Over the weekend, Rivers State had a rerun elections which ended with not less than four people confirmed dead. However, the Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers state, Chief Davies Ikanya, said that Governor Nyesom Wike and his Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) had brought embarrassment and national shame to the people due to desperation in winning the elections.
Mr Ikanya, who made the statement through his Senior Special Assistant (SSA) on Media and Public Affairs, Chief Eze Chukwuemeka Eze, insisted that Wike and his allies were not above the law. He described allegation by Rivers PDP Chairman, Chief Felix Obuah, that APC leaders masterminded the beating up and arrest of the Secretary to the Rivers State Government, Kenneth Kobani, and the Environment Commissioner, Prof. Roseline Konya as frivolous and ridiculous.
“Why should we mastermind the arrest of Kobani? What is his political relevance? Does his position as SSG place him above the law? Are we the ones that asked him to be lawless, that warranted his arrest? We are orderly and decent. We want the best for Rivers State. Hon. Rotimi Amaechi, the Minister of Transportation, was directed by the Deputy Inspector-General of Police (DIG), in charge of Operations, Sotonye Wakama, to vote and leave for his residence and he complied.
“Who is Kobani to be moving around, intimidating voters in polling units that he does not belong? Maybe very soon, they will accuse APC of planting the N40 million, arms, police and army uniforms in the car of Wike’s Special Adviser on Special Projects, Cyril Dum Wite, that led to his arrest. Imagine the embarrassment and national shame that Wike and PDP have brought to Rivers State.”
Meanwhile, according to the unofficial results of the rerun, which was released on Sunday, PDP was seen as the clear lead, with more votes in most local government than their opposing party, APC.
