In August 1974, he moved to Salt Lake City and continued his killings. His then-girlfriend Elizabeth Kloepfer, suspecting him of being the serial killer that has been evading capture, reported him to the police as a suspect on three different occasions. Despite her suspicions, she continued with the relationship, and the police who thought Ted was an unlikely suspect didn&#8217;t make a move to apprehend him.<\/p>\n<p>On August 16, 1975, Ted was apprehended by a patrol cop, after exhibiting suspicious moves, and his home was searched, but because the police missed a vital clue, he was let go. He was, however, put under 24-hour surveillance and his girlfriend Elizabeth Kloepfer was further interviewed.<\/p>\n<p>On October 2, one of his would-have-been victims Carol DaRonch identified him in a lineup, but he was only charged for aggravated kidnapping and attempted criminal assault and released on bail. He was subsequently sentenced to 15 years in Utah state prison. After a botched attempt to escape, he was transferred to Aspen in January 1977. In June 1977, he managed to escape from the courthouse where he was on trial, he was however arrested after six days on the run.<\/p>\n<p>Ted made another murder attempt on December 30 and successfully escaped this time.
